Oh Jackie, you're pencil is beautiful and the final is stunning! You have a true gift for detail. (I'm always engrossed with your border treatments even though they play second fiddle to your sweet characters.) You are the gouache queen.
Thanks everyone! I came up with some new techniques to shorten the process. The border is assembled in photoshop so I have 1 corner piece, 1 log border and the 2 triangle borders. They are painted individually then assembled. That way I can use them for different licensing projects and can cut down on the number of painting hours. That said - those borders and details are my best therapy after a long day.:)
For more than ten years, I designed and produced childrens' entertainment and educational software, websites and videos. Now I spend my days drawing and painting everything from armadillos to zebras to homemade Pokemon cards for my son.
I graduated from Murray Tinkelman’s limited residency MFA program at Hartford Art School in July 2009. The program was a dream come true; to live and breathe art with incredible illustrators for 4 weeks a year - heaven! Please see the link below if you’d like to find out more information.
I didn’t choose to pursue illustration; it chose me. I do it because I simply can’t stop. It’s the way I think and approach life. Someone else sees an older lady sipping tea and doesn’t think twice. I see that lady and imagine a coiffed ostrich with pearls in a boiled wool suit and matching hat. Playing pretend never gets old!

Beautiful, beautiful, BEAUTIFUL!!! Great work.
I think I love the basket alone as much as the characters! Everything has such weight and texture to it. Gorgeous work.

Really beautiful! Love seeing the progression.
Wonderful details! I can't imagine how long this must have taken.
